UPDATE: CHEVENING SCHOLARSHIPS


The deadline for Gambian applications for UK Chevening Scholarships, the prestigious global scholarship programme run by the UK Government has recently been extended.  

Every year the British High Commission to The Gambia sends two Gambian students to the UK for a fully funded one year masters degree programme at a university of their choice.  (There are currently two Gambian students in the UK studying advanced economics at the University of Edinburgh in Scotland.)

The deadline has just been extended to 02nd January 2013 meaning potential students now have more time to apply.  Students must pass an English Language Test before they will be awarded a scholarship.

4 YJAG Members attends media freedom and responsibility training in Ghana

Four YJAG members on September 16 left Banjul for Accra, Ghana, to attend a two-week intensive course on “Freedom and Responsibility in the Media.”

They are Lamin Jahateh, YJAG Secretary General and an editor at the MarketPlace Business Newspaper, Yussuf Ceesy, Co-opted members of YJAG executive and a reported for The Point newspaper, Binta Bah,a judicial correspondent for The Daily News Newspaper, and Amie Faye, a reporter for the Gambia News & Report Magazine.

YJAG TO MARK 5TH ANNIVERSARY: SEPTEMBER 16


PRESS RELEASE:

On 16th September this year, the Young Journalists Association of The Gambia will be five years old and as such the association is to hold a day-long symposium on the day at the new secretariat of the Gambia Press Union, in Fajara, to mark the anniversary.

A news release from the association has it that the theme of this year’s anniversary is: “Promoting Professionalism Through Capacity Building”, and a number of lectures in line with theme are to be delivered on the day by veteran journalists in the country.

The Young Journalists Association of The Gambia (YJAG) has recently inaugurated a new board of advisers that is to provide strategic guidance and a thoughtful advice for the association to help ensure that it remains true to its aims, mission and vision.

Held on 19th July at the new secretariat of the Gambia Press Union in Fajara, the ceremony was graced by various media chiefs in the country, the executive director of the GPU, and a cross section of media practitioners.

A new board of advisers for the Young Journalists Association of the Gambia(YJAG) will be inaugurated on Thursday, July 19 at a ceremony to be held at thenew secretariat of the Gambia Press Union in Fajara.
